Zygote is a meet-up for artists to share and discuss new ideas.

Have you been looking for a sounding board? Itching to riff with other artists about a topic or theme you’re playing with? Like talking about your research out loud to figure out your next step? Wanna conjure up some resources or free associate in a group? Curious how other disciplines might engage with your idea?

Our first session is Monday August 11th, and there are just a few spots! 

💡 What kind of ideas are we talking about? 💡

💭 Art ideas. This is a broad category, eh? Whether you’re a sculptor, choreographer, poet, photographer, book designer, filmmaker, insert-your-medium-here, you’re welcome at a Zygote session.

🆕 New ideas. If your project/artwork is already created or near its final form–like maybe you are seeking feedback for how to ‘polish it’– this is not really the right avenue. 

If, however, you are in a brainstorming / drafting / research / exploration phase, this is likely just right! 

Works-in-Progress are totally welcome, granted that you are in a place where new directions and considerations would be helpful.

💬 Ideas you want to talk about. Topical or Conceptual things are rad. It could also be a rough draft of a poem or sketch for an installation that you share, and you want to hear what ideas it sparks in others. If you want ‘feedback’ à la typical art critique session, we can do that too. The manner and form of discussions are flexible. We keep the group small* for deep diving. We ask questions, seek to understand your process, and let you select the kind of engagement from the group that is right for you.

RSVP required.

Each session is limited to 6 people.
20 minutes each for discussion and presenting.
The session itself lasts 2.5 hours, but we invite you to stay, snack, and chat informally afterwards too! 

This will be held at gatheringspace. We are a private studio located near Main Street and Ferry in Buffalo. Exact Directions will be given after signup.
