A multipurpose studio for collaborative and experimental art.

We host workshops by artists and community members, with a special focus on experimental and socially-engaged practices.

Our studio offers a range of equipment and resources for printing, bookmaking, performance, media, and photography.

A portion of the space is available for rent/use by small groups. Photographers may also rent our photo studio with 9’ backdrop. (inquire for rates)

Gatheringspace has an extensive photobook library available to artists for browsing and creative research.

Gatheringspace is a co-creation of artists Avye Alexandres and Joel Brenden.

Avye’s practice is a hybrid of performance, cinema, sculpture, and media installation, drawing on training in theater and photography. Joel’s work is likewise interdisciplinary, spanning graphic design, book arts, and photography including video and time-based. We work independently, and have collaborated and assisted each other on various projects since 2016.

Our experiences searching for venues suited to such hybrid practices led us to recognize the need for multi-use art spaces in the area. Gatheringspace is our contribution to Buffalo’s network of artistic camaraderie and dialogue with an aim to extend access to tangible resources. Through artist engagements, concept-driven creative workshops, and affordable purpose-built space we envision a space that will cultivate unexpected collaborations.

More info coming to this site soon. Tune into our events to get a flavor of our workshop and community events.
